Aquaculture has been developing rapidly during the last few decades; it is due to the increase of fish demand. Increasing aquaculture activities especially with semi-intensive and intensive system have significant effect on waste production, which has to be removed or to be reduced quickly because will effect on fish in rearing tank and environment when through away to environment such as river and sea.
The objectives of this study were to know the capability of corrugated plastic to remove or to reduce wastes content produced by aquaculture activities, i.e, Total Suspended Sediment (TSS), Suspended Sediment (SS), ammonia and organic matter (COD). The result of the study showed that corrugated plastic effectively reduced TSS, SS, ammonia and COD both within rearing tank and in the outside of rearing tank with removal efficiency: 74.51% and 54.42% (TSS); 39.20% and 49.12% (SS); 19.82% and 14.2% (ammonia); and 24.82% and 22.47% (COD). When corrugated plastic is compared with other materials such as plastic rolls, scrub pads, PVC pipes etc, it is shown that corrugated plastic performed significantly higher removal rate (g/m3/d) and specific removal rate (mg/m2/d) to ammonia.
